At 6pm, on Wednesday 14th January 2009, The Australian Youth Olympics Festival held its Opening Ceremony at The Sydney Entertainment Centre.
The marvellous display featured acrobatics, dance and colourful rhythmic displays, as well as an official Olympic march. Australian Waterpolo team-member Breanna Appel was given the honour of lighting the Olympic Cauldron.
Australia has a team of over 660 Olympians and Crew entered in the event, but China is the largest team involved with 273 athletes competing. New Zealand, Great Britain and Japan have also sent teams consisting of over one hundred competitors. Chile,
This year’s Australian Youth Olympics Festival will showcase competitions in: archery, athletics, basketball, canoeing, cycling, diving, equestrian, fencing, football, gymnastics, hockey, rowing, shooting, swimming, triathalon and waterpolo.
