Australian Youth Olympics: Day 3 Aqua-Sport Photos and Results.

Swimming and Waterpolo always promise to be thrilling events, and spectators got a double treat during the day two aqua-sports, seeing Australian athletes making them proud at the Homebush Aquatic Centre.

Australians reigned victorious in both the men’s and women’s waterpolo, and taking one second place and two thirds in the backstroke and butterfly swimming heats.

While all swimmers and waterpolo players could be seen giving their best, quite substantial gaps fell between place holders for all events.
The atmosphere at the event proved that although the competitors were young, they are very capable of performing in a competitive international environment.

3rd Philip Butcher- Australia [58.86]

 

Heat: 200m Butterfly- Men 1st Ryogo Nakajima- Japan[2.02.60]
2nd Yusuke Yasue- Japan[2.03.37]
3rd Luke Stirton-Australia [2.04.32]

Round 1 Match 1: Greece vs. Hungary, 16:9.
Round 1 Match 2: Australia vs. China, 27:6.

WOMEN’S WATERPOLO:
Round 1 Match 1: Hungary vs.Greece, 19:9.
Round 1 Match 2: Australia vs. China, 17:10.

2009 Australian Youth Olympics Festival: The Spectacular Start


At 6pm, on Wednesday 14th January 2009, The Australian Youth Olympics Festival held its Opening Ceremony at The Sydney Entertainment Centre.

The marvellous display featured acrobatics, dance and colourful rhythmic displays, as well as an official Olympic march. Australian Waterpolo team-member Breanna Appel was given the honour of lighting the Olympic Cauldron.

Australia has a team of over 660 Olympians and Crew entered in the event, but China is the largest team involved with 273 athletes competing. New Zealand, Great Britain and Japan have also sent teams consisting of over one hundred competitors. Chile,

This year’s Australian Youth Olympics Festival will showcase competitions in: archery, athletics, basketball, canoeing, cycling, diving, equestrian, fencing, football, gymnastics, hockey, rowing, shooting, swimming, triathalon and waterpolo.

BLK1 is the place to get updated results and photographs of all aqua sports for the 2009 Australian Youth Olympics Festival.
