Womens Ready to Wear #1 Fashion Collection 2010 - Rosemount Australian Fashion Week 2010
Carly Hunter
In 2007, after studying fashion and textile design at the Western Australian School of Art Design and Media, Hunter started her label and has since shown her collections consecutively at the Perth and L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival’s in Australia, as well as the 2008 and 2009 WA StyleAid. In July 2009, she presented her summer collection to international buyers and press at the Projekt Galerie international designer showrooms in Berlin, Germany, as part of Berlin Fashion Week. In 2010 the label has again been invited to show at L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival on the Yen magazine runway alongside designers Alpha60, Nom*D, and Zambesi.
Hunter’s designs reflect a somewhat geometric, minimal atmosphere. Recurring influences in every collection are 1990’s grunge, elegance, youth and some other dark subject matter. Hunter’s obsession with perfect symmetry is ever present in each piece, and is emphasized with strong shaping and paneling and experimental cut. She also likes to create a balance between the masculine and feminine appeal in her clothes, more than often taking strong elements of menswear and contrasting them with feminine detail, such as pearls, pleating and fringing.
SS11
‘Non Ho Sonno’ translates at ‘sleepless’ or ‘I cant sleep’ in Italian.
It refers mostly to the insomnia and delusions the designer was experiencing while working on this collection, and only slightly references the Dario Argento horror film of the same name. Many of the designs are made to look like twisted bedsheets and clothing, like the wearer has been sleepwalking in the night. The polka dot netting reflects the hallucinations and double vision that many insomniacs experience. Chadwick Tyler’s ‘Demons’ series and Hiroshi Sugimoto’s ‘Seascapes’ were a reference for the colour palette and stillness in designs.
For this collection a film was created by Alex Goddard, starring Courtney James from Scene Models, revolving aroung ‘the sleepwalker’ which will be played alongside the collection at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week 2010.

Uscari is a break-through label set to challenge the existing tapestry of the fashion scene. For founder and designer Krystel Davis, Uscari was born out of a penchant for the finer things in life. Uscari’s brilliance is not surprising; hailing from a family of fashion entrepreneurs, Davis was introduced to the world of fashion at a young age. Her parents housed one of the largest fashion brands in New Zealand during the 1980s and drew a large following such as the likes of Stevie Nicks.
