FINA, the world governing body of swimming, has approved the new Arena swimsuit, which the manufacturer hopes will rival the Speedo LZR Racer at the Beijing Olympics.

Nineteen long-course world records have been set since the LZR Racer was introduced in February, all but one of those by a swimmer wearing the suit, leading to a scramble by rival manufacturers to find a solution.  Olympic 400m champion Laure Manaudou from France and 100m freestyle world champion Filippo Magnini from Italy are just two swimmers who are with Arena and who had been waiting for the new suit.Arena explained that its new Powerskin R-Revolution+ suits were seamless with polyurethane sections that boost floatability and hold muscles firm.

The R-Revolution+ will be tested for the first time in competition by swimmers including Magnini during a meet in Rome this weekend.
