2009 World Masters Games: Diving

diving1710CG006_Sydney_2009International athletes have taken all gold medal honours at the diving on Day 7 at the Sydney 2009 World Masters Games.

The action got underway with the woman’s 80+ 3m springboard event. After three dives, Rene Puddifoot (GBR) won the event with a score of 90.8 points over Australia’s Theresa Margaret Adamson on an even 55 points.

American competitors staged a clean sweep in the men’s 70-79 3m springboard with 70 year old John Deininger taking out the gold after he led the whole way, with a final total of 175.5 points. Felix Grossman narrowly won the silver with a score of 166.15 over Peter Di Croce with 164.6.diving1710CG007_Sydney_2009

By the half way point in the men’s 50-59 3m springboard, Roy Botsko (USA) had a convincing lead over the rest of the field with a total 153.7, a 28.5 point lead over nearest competitor, Ken Grove of Australia.

diving1710CG011_Sydney_2009Over the remaining three rounds, he extended his lead to win the event with a score of 318.15 points. Grove held on to second place to earn the silver, with a total of264.75. Botsko’s compatriot Stephen Greymorning (USA) took the bronze with a 242.75.

Yury Eregov (RUS) was challenged early on by Canada’s Richard LeBlanc, in the final event of the session, the men’s 60-69 years 3m springboard. He managed to pull away to win silver with a score of 243.55 while LeBlanc finished with a 224.20. Trevor Hudson (AUS) won the bronze with a 150.05 score.
